There are many advantages to choosing Falun as the host for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013. The city is located in Dalarna, in the heart of Scandinavia, readily accessible by frequent rail and air service. This is a region where the people love everything having to do with skiing, competitions and festivals. Ski competitions have been arranged in the region since the late 19th century. One of the world’s oldest international competitions, Skidspelen, is hosted here in Falun. Another famous competition is Vasaloppet, the world’s biggest ski competition whose finish is only 50 minutes by car from Falun. We are also proud of numerous other annual events as well as a history of big and well-organised ski festivals, together with the neighbouring town of Borlänge.
Falun is the centre of a growing region with more than 100,000 inhabitants today, and together the cities will comprise the heart of the Nordic World Ski Championships.
