Sweden’s first ski competition was held on February 25th, 1879. The event took place in Bellevue Park in the royal capital of Stockholm. But the history of skiing goes much further back in time than that. The world’s oldest ski, made in around 3200 BC, has been found in Västerbotten in the far north of Sweden.

Since then Sweden has fostered both kings and queens in the world of skiing. The fact that skiing has such a special place in the hearts of Swedes is part of the reason why the competitions we arrange and the skiers we produce are beyond the ordinary.

We in Falun know how to arrange major sporting events, the most recent one being the successful Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre. Now we stand ready, willing and able to arrange the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013. The site of the competitions
will be Falun, in the heart of Dalarna, Sweden’s Kingdom of Skiing. We look forward to welcoming elite skiers from all over the world to a fantastic competition. In the Kingdom of Skiing.
